  • Bring back the donkey

One program from the 90's that I would like to see return is 'Drop the Dead Donkey'. This satirical program about a TV news station had some brilliant actors playing fantastic larger than life charactors. My favourit was the station manager Gus Hedges (Robert Duncan) who had some ace one-liners like:

"What's filling today's scoop sandwich chief?"

"Helen we need a rapid interface in the chin-wag department."

"However, the fickle hand of Mr Fate has spun the coin of destiny."

"Jill, could you come for a brief scuba in my think tank?"

"I think we have a slight togetherness shortfall here."

"I'm in major cellular rejuvenation mode, fast tracking my way to eternal biological viability."

  • Earlest comedy recollection

This morning I was channel hoping and spotted 'I dream of Jeanie' on living and remembered watching it as 10 year old child. Which got me on to thinking what was the earliest comedy series I watched.

American series would have to be 'The Dick Van Dyke' show in the early 60's, which also starred Mary Tyler Moore. Then there was 'The Beverly Hillbillies' (1962),'F-Troop'(1965), 'Hogans Hero's'(1965) and 'Rowan and Martin's Laugh-in'(1967).

British series would have to be 'Hancock; (1961), 'Steptoe and Son' (1962), 'Please Sir'(1968), 'On the Buses' (1969), The Gnomes of Dulwich (1969), 'Up Pompeii' (1969), and Doctor at Large (1971).

    Any that you recollect?

  • Old fashioned games

Apart from British BullDog and French Skipping can anybody remember the names of games they played in their youth?

My favourites were Tin Can Alley and Knock Down Ginger.
